Apple and Google Join Forces for User Privacy

Are you ever worried someone might be tracking your location without your knowledge? Well, fear not! Apple and Google have joined forces to develop a new privacy feature that combats this very issue.

This initiative, called Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers, is now rolling out on both iOS and Android devices. This feature will alert users if an unknown Bluetooth tracking device is traveling with them, giving you back control over your privacy.

If an unfamiliar Bluetooth tracker is detected moving with you over time, you'll receive an alert on your phone - "Item Found Moving With You" on iPhone and "Tracker traveling with you" on Android.

Clicking the alert will reveal the tracker's identifier and (if supported) allow you to play a sound to locate it. You'll also be provided with instructions on how to disable the tracking device altogether.

This feature is built on a new industry standard called "Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers," ensuring broader compatibility across different device manufacturers. Companies like Chipolo, eufy, Jio, Motorola, and Pebblebee have already committed to making their future products compatible.

While Bluetooth tracking devices have their uses, like keeping tabs on misplaced keys or luggage, they can also be misused for stalking purposes. These small devices can be easily hidden in belongings, making them difficult to detect.

This new feature from Apple and Google addresses this growing concern. By providing timely alerts and giving users the tools to locate and disable unknown trackers, Detecting Unwanted Location Trackers helps individuals to safeguard their privacy.

Don't be Tracked in the Dark!
