Google’s "Made by Google" Event Updates

Google recently held its highly anticipated "Made by Google" event, showcasing a range of new hardware and generative AI features. The event highlighted the launch of the Pixel 9 series, Pixel Buds Pro 2, and the Pixel Watch 3, all integrated with the latest advancements in artificial intelligence. Here’s a detailed look at the standout announcements from the event.

The Pixel 9 Series: A New Era of Smartphones

The star of the show was undoubtedly the Pixel 9 series, which includes four distinct models: The Pixel 9, Pixel 9 Pro, Pixel 9 Pro XL, and the Pixel 9 Pro Fold. Each model is equipped with Google's powerful Tensor G4 chip, ensuring high performance and efficiency.

The Pixel 9 is the entry-level model, featuring a 6.3-inch Actua display, 12GB of RAM, and a dual-camera system with a 50MP wide lens and a 48MP ultra wide lens. This model starts at £799 and is available in four attractive colours: Obsidian, Porcelain, Wintergreen, and Peony.

Next up is the Pixel 9 Pro, which boasts a Super Actua display for enhanced brightness, 16GB of RAM, and a more advanced camera system, including a 42MP front camera and three rear cameras (50MP wide, 48MP ultra wide, and 48MP telephoto). Priced at £999, this model also comes with a one-year subscription to the Google One AI Premium Plan, offering 2TB of cloud storage and access to Gemini Advanced and Gemini Live.

For those who prefer a larger screen, the Pixel 9 Pro XL features a 6.8-inch Super Actua display and shares the same impressive specifications as the Pro model, starting at £1,099.

Finally, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold introduces a foldable design with a 6.3-inch Actua outer display and an 8-inch Super Actua inner display. This innovative model starts at £1,799 and is available in Obsidian and Porcelain.

All four models promise over 24 hours of battery life, emergency SOS capabilities, and seven years of software and security updates, making them a solid investment for tech enthusiasts.

Android 15 and Gemini AI: Enhancing User Experience

In addition to the new hardware, Google also revealed Android 15, which features the highly anticipated Gemini AI assistant. Gemini replaces Google Assistant as the default assistant on Android devices, offering a more intelligent and interactive experience.

Key features of Gemini include Gemini Live, which provides advanced conversational capabilities, and Add Me, a feature that merges group photos with individual shots to create a complete image. Another exciting addition is Pixel Screenshots, which uses AI to help users organise and retrieve their screenshots more efficiently.

The Call Notes feature provides users with AI-generated summaries of their phone calls, ensuring that important information is never lost. Additionally, the Reimagine tool allows users to edit images by simply tapping on the desired area and typing in prompts like "add sunset" or "make the grass greener."

To prioritise user privacy, Google has implemented Gemini Nano, an on-device multimodal AI model that ensures data remains secure and does not rely on cloud processing.

Pixel Buds Pro 2: A New Standard in Audio

Google also introduced the Pixel Buds Pro 2, which come with a host of upgrades to enhance the audio experience. These new earbuds feature a custom-designed 11mm dynamic speaker driver and the Tensor A1 chip for superior audio processing.

With Active Noise Cancellation 2.0, Transparency mode, and Conversation Detection, the Pixel Buds Pro 2 are designed to provide an immersive listening experience while allowing users to stay aware of their surroundings. The earbuds are available in four stylish colours: Hazel, Porcelain, Wintergreen, and Peony, all encased in a sleek egg-shaped charging cradle.

Google Pixel Watch 3: Fitness Meets Functionality

The Pixel Watch 3 was another highlight of the event, featuring a brighter screen with a peak brightness of 2,000 nits and improved battery life thanks to its dual-chip architecture. This new smartwatch offers advanced fitness features, including a Morning Brief that provides users with a readiness score based on their previous day's activity.

For those who prefer a larger display, the Pixel Watch 3 XL features a 45mm screen, catering to a demographic that appreciates a more expansive view. Both models come equipped with Wear OS 5.0, ultra-wideband (UWB) technology, and a custom 3D Corning Gorilla Glass 5 screen for added durability.

With the launch of the Pixel 9 series, Android 15, and innovative audio and smartwatch offerings, Google continues to push the boundaries of technology. The integration of generative AI into its products enhances user experience and sets a new standard in the tech industry. Pre-orders for these exciting products begun already on August 13, with availability starting August 22. Whether you're a smartphone enthusiast, an audio lover, or a fitness fanatic, there's something for everyone in Google's latest line-up. Images courtesy google.
