NVIDIA Releases Source Code for Flow and PhysX GPU

NVIDIA Releases Source Code for Flow and PhysX GPU

NVIDIA has released the source code for both Flow and PhysX GPU. The versions now available are 2.2.0 for Flow and 5.6.0 for PhysX.

This PhysX release includes the complete GPU source code under the BSD-3 license. NVIDIA will no longer provide GPU acceleration binaries, requiring users to build GPU binaries from source themselves.

This development could prove significant for RTX50 series GPU owners. Back in February, we reported that NVIDIA had removed support for CUDA 32-bit from these graphics cards, rendering 32-bit games with PhysX GPU acceleration incompatible.

With RTX50 series GPUs still supporting CUDA 64-bit, two potential solutions emerge. First, modders could develop patches replacing the older 32-bit PhysX GPU-hardware code with new 64-bit versions. Alternatively, developers might create a GPU layer to emulate PhysX GPU functionality on RTX50 cards.

The first approach could benefit not just RTX50 owners but all users of PhysX GPU-accelerated games. Many 32-bit games implementing PhysX GPU suffered from optimisation issues that a 64-bit modded version might resolve. While feasibility remains uncertain, the availability of PhysX GPU source code creates exciting possibilities.

Those interested can download source code for both Flow and PhysX GPU through the provided link. We'll keep you updated on any developments regarding mods or patches enabling PhysX GPU 32-bit compatibility on RTX50 GPUs.
